M. Susan Barger has spent much of the past two decades working with small museums in New Mexico and the Inter-Mountain West as a museum field service professional working to help small cultural institutions improve their management and the care of their collections. She grew up in the West and values these small institutions and what they offer to their local communities and the region. This website has grown out of her passion for the these institutions and her desire to bring more people to visit and learn about what they have to offer.
From 2001-2004, Barger served as the Program Manager for the Small Museum Development Project, a joint program of the Museum of New Mexico and the New Mexico Association of Museums. In 2005, she was a co-founder of the non-profit professional museum field services organization, Museum Development Associates, and served as the Director from January 2008 through December 2010, when the nonprofit closed its doors. She is a Fellow in the American Institute for Conservation.
